Question by Daniel: I have a half sovereign coin and the shield is the wrong way round to the head.Does this mean its worth more?
I have a half sovereign coin and the shield is the wrong way round to the head.Does this mean its worth more? I was told something about medal and coin alignments?
Best answer:
Answer by liberty911 Just so you know British coins and US coins are aligned differently. All circulating British (and Canadian, for that matter) coins are aligned so you can hold a coin by the top and bottom, turn it around and the other side is the correct way up. All circulating US coins are aligned so you can hold a coin by the top and bottom, turn it around and the other side is upside down. During ancient times coins often had random die rotation depending on how the dies were placed before striking. I can find very little information on British error coin values, so I would recommend you take it to a local coin expert for an evaluation. I hope that helps.

Question by Within the Storm: Should the British Sovereign reign alone as an Absolute Monarch?
The whole "Parliament" tradition seems a bit outdated, not to mention overly expensive and time-consuming...
Best answer:
Answer by english rosethorn It may be a good suggestion. Her majesty I feel sure has more experience than all her ministers.
Since so few people bother to turn up to vote. Democracy appears to be rather wasted on the majority.

Question by Paul Cornell: Which British sovereign said . . .?
Which British sovereign said "Close your eyes and think of England."
Best answer:
Answer by Diana T The phrase is attributed to Queen Victoria, however there is no evidence she ever said it.
According to an urban legend, Queen Victoria gave this instruction to her daughter on her wedding night.
Yet another legend attributes this to Queen Victoria speaking of Prince Albert - unlikely since she deeply loved her husband.
According to other urban legends, the phrase originated in the diary of Lady Alice Hillingdon: "I am happy now that George calls on my bedchamber less frequently than of old. As it is, I now endure but two calls a week, and when I hear his steps outside my door I lie down on my bed, close my eyes, open my legs, and think of England."

Question by Jbushkey: Why does my little credit union have better online banking than Sovereign Bank?
My main bank is a small credit union with about half a dozen branches. I also bank with Sovereign.
When I make a transfer from savings to checking online at the credit union it happens instantly. The same transaction through sovereign takes 24 hours.
Using online bill pay at the credit union the amount is deducted from my balance when I authorize the billpay. I like that alot because the money really isn't available after I authorize a payment so why show it? Sovereign waits for the payment to clear before deducting it from my available balance. Are they hoping customers trip up so they can charge them fees?
How can a such a small bank have online banking that is a class above a national bank like Sovereign?
Best answer:
Answer by creativescrapbooks@rocketmail.com Smaller banks or credit unions for that matter or more about people than the money. I have an account with Wells Fargo and with a local credit union. My bill pay feature is free with my credit union and Wells Fargo charges for bill pay. When I authorize bill pay with my credit union it is taken out of my account immediately also. When I talked to Wells Fargo they said it can take a few days to come out. Just as I said in the beginning, smaller banks are geared toward the customer's happiness and ease of use rather than the bigger banks. And since we are "owners" per say in a credit union we have better perks and rewards than bigger banks do.
