12 indian head penny's from the late 1800's, canadian 25 cents, a cayman islands coin with a 10 on the back, a gold dollar coin that feels so smooth it seems like someone laminated it, plus i can see my self it.1912 indian ANNA one quarter on the back, and on the front it says GEORGE V KING EMPEROR. and a coin with a man with a spear and shield, it says 1 Fr. on the other side. Another GEORGE V KING EMPEROR, 1/2 pice India 1914. and ne f my faves Constantine 1 the great, dated back to 307 AD.

A good place to start is your public library. Ask them to loan you the books on world coins. Condition of the coins will determine the retail price, the better they are the more they're worth.

When a new British Sovereign ascends the Throne, he or she usually chooses to reign under his or her first name. For example, when Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary became Queen in 1952, she chose to reign under the name of Queen Elizabeth II.

There have been exceptions.

For example, when Prince Albert Frederick Arthur George became King in 1936, he chose to reign as King George VI.

When his grandfather, Prince Albert Edward, became King in 1901, he chose to reign as King Edward VII.

Neither of them wished to reign as King Albert, because the public associated the name "Albert" with Queen Victoria's husband, and the former wished to emphasize continuity with his father's reign following the abdication of his brother, King Edward VIII.

Now for the question:

By tradition, how does the new sovereign "officially" inform his or her subjects of the name he or she has chosen?
Hint: It consists of a mesage. To whom and from whom is the message?
According to Alan Michie's "God Save The Queen," published in 1952, after the death of King George VI and before the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the Lord Mayor of London, by ancient prerogative, is entitled to be the first person (outside the Royal Family) to be notified of the sovereign's death. Other sources (e.g. the New York Times published in January 1936 after the death of King George V) indicate that this notification is given in writing and consists of a message signed by the new sovereign and delivered to the Lord Mayor. The manner in which the new sovereign signs the message determines the new sovereign's regnal name. I was interested to have the information about Queen Victoria. Thanks to all who responded.

When Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, becomes King, it is possible that he will not want to use the name Charles - he could be King Charles III, but the first two Charleses were not exactly the most popular kings that Britain has ever had. Charles I in particular angered Parliament because of his autocratic rule, leading to the English Civil War and eventually to his being the only monarch we've ever had who was executed.

i have a 22k british gold sovereign from 1909, with a loop on the top which im pretty sure was used for a string for a necklace at some point, the coin is in excellent condition and almost no scratches on it, how much would it be worth??

Being what is known in the field of numismatics as 'ex-jewelry', the coin is not in excellent condition, may not be gradable by one of the leading grading companies, and will have very limited appeal to collectors. This pretty much reduces it to a coin that gold bullion investors will buy. It's a smaller coin, so the percentage of premium over spot market price will be higher than it would on a one ounce bullion coin, but as ex-jewelry, the premium will be small or there might be none at all You're looking at somewhere in the 5 - 0 range.

There will be no more 'bleeps' in the Jerry Springer show. If you're not old enough to cope with bad language then you shouldn't have chat shows. When you learn to develop your vocabulary, then you won't have to use bad language as often.

2. There is no such thing as "US English." We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take account of the reinstated letter 'u' and the elimination of "-ize."

3. You should learn to distinguish the English and Australian accents. It really isn't that hard. English accents are not limited to cockney, upper-class twit or Mancunian (Daphne in Frasier).

You will also have to learn how to understand regional accents --- Scottish dramas such as "Taggart" will no longer be broadcast with subtitles.

While we're talking about regions, you must learn that there is no such place as Devonshire in England. The name of the county is "Devon." If you persist in calling it Devonshire, all American States will become "shires" e.g. Texasshire, Floridashire, Louisianashire.

4. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as the good guys. Hollywood will be required to cast English actors to play English characters.

British sit-coms such as "Men Behaving Badly" or "Red Dwarf" will not be re-cast and watered down for a wishy-washy American audience who can't cope with the humour of occasional political incorrectness. Popular British films such as the Italian Job and the Wicker Man should never be remade.

5. You should relearn your original national anthem, "God Save The Queen", but only after fully carrying out task 1. We would not want you to get confused and give up half way through.

6. You should stop playing American "football." There are other types of football such as Rugby, Aussie Rules & Gaelic football. However proper football - which will no longer be known as soccer, is the best known, most loved and most popular. What you refer to as American "football" is not a very good game.

The 2.15% of you who are aware that there is a world outside your borders may have noticed that no one else plays "American" football. You will no longer be allowed to play it, and should instead play proper football.

Initially, it would be best if you played with the girls. It is a difficult game. Those of you brave enough will, in time, be allowed to play rugby (which is similar to American "football", but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like nancies).

We are hoping to get together at least a US Rugby sevens side by 2008.

You should stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the 'World Series' for a game which is not played outside of North America. Since only 2.15% of you are aware that there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable. Instead of baseball, you will be allowed to
play a girls' game called "rounders," which is baseball without fancy team strip, oversized gloves, collector cards or hotdogs.

7. You will no longer be allowed to own or carry guns. You will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous in public than a vegetable peeler. Because we don't believe you are sensible enough to handle potentially dangerous items, you will require a permit if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.

8. The 4th of July is no longer a public holiday. The 2nd of November will be a new national holiday, but only in Britain. It will be called "Indecisive Day."

9. All American cars are hereby banned. They are crap, and it is for your own good. When we show you German cars, you will understand what we mean.

All road intersections will be replaced with roundabouts. You will start driving on the left with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric with immediate effect and without the benefit of conversion tables. Roundabouts and
metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour.

10. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call 'French fries' are not real chips. Fries aren't even French, they are Belgian though 97.85% of you (including the guy who discovered fries while in Europe) are not aware of a country called Belgium. Those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called "crisps." Real chips are thick cut and fried in animal fat. The traditional accompaniment to chips is beer which should be served warm and flat.

Waitresses will be trained to be more aggressive with customers.

11. As a sign of penance 5 grams of sea salt per cup will be added to all tea made within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, this quantity to be doubled for tea made within the city of Boston itself.

12. The cold tasteless stuff you insist on calling "beer" is not actually beer at all, it is lager . From November 1st only proper British Bitter will be referred to as "beer," and European br
ews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as "Lager." The substances formerly known as "American Beer" will henceforth be referred to as "Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine," with the exception of the product of the American Budweiser company whose product will be referred to as "Weak Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine." This will allow true Budweiser (as manufactured for the last 1000 years in the Czech Republic) to be sold without risk of confusion.

13. From the 10th of November the UK will harmonise petrol (or "gasoline," as you will be permitted to keep calling it until the 1st of April) prices with the former USA. The UK will harmonise its prices to those of the former USA and the Former USA will, in return, adopt UK petrol prices (roughly /US gallon -- get used to it).

14. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not adult enough to be independent. Guns should only b
be handled by adults. If you're not adult enough to sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist, then you're not grown up enough to handle a gun.

Looking at what is going on in America, I wonder is there anyone out there who honestly believes as the Gipper did who can run for President and win in 2012.

I don't think that Huckabee, Pawlenty, Crist, Perdue, Gingrich, McCain, Bloomberg, Schwartzenegger (I know he can't run for President), etc would fire people like Reagan did.

Reagan: Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you and good evening. The sponsor has been identified, but unlike most television programs, the performer hasn't been provided with a script. As a matter of fact, I have been permitted to choose my own words and discuss my own ideas regarding the choice that we face in the next few weeks.

I have spent most of my life as a Democrat. I recently have seen fit to follow another course. I believe that the issues confronting us cross party lines. Now, one side in this campaign has been telling us that the issues of this election are the maintenance of peace and prosperity. The line has been used, "We've never had it so good."

But I have an uncomfortable feeling that this prosperity isn't something on which we can base our hopes for the future. No nation in history has ever survived a tax burden that reached a third of its national income. Today, 37 cents out of every dollar earned in this country is the tax collector's share, and yet our government continues to spend 17 million dollars a day more than the government takes in. We haven't balanced our budget 28 out of the last 34 years. We've raised our debt limit three times in the last twelve months, and now our national debt is one and a half times bigger than all the combined debts of all the nations of the world. We have 15 billion dollars in gold in our treasury; we don't own an ounce. Foreign dollar claims are 27.3 billion dollars. And we've just had announced that the dollar of 1939 will now purchase 45 cents in its total value.

As for the peace that we would preserve, I wonder who among us would like to approach the wife or mother whose husband or son has died in South Vietnam and ask them if they think this is a peace that should be maintained indefinitely. Do they mean peace, or do they mean we just want to be left in peace? There can be no real peace while one American is dying some place in the world for the rest of us. We're at war with the most dangerous enemy that has ever faced mankind in his long climb from the swamp to the stars, and it's been said if we lose that war, and in so doing lose this way of freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment that those who had the most to lose did the least to prevent its happening. Well I think it's time we ask ourselves if we still know the freedoms that were intended for us by the Founding Fathers.

Not too long ago, two friends of mine were talking to a Cuban refugee, a businessman who had escaped from Castro, and in the midst of his story one of my friends turned to the other and said, "We don't know how lucky we are." And the Cuban stopped and said, "How lucky you are? I had someplace to escape to." And in that sentence he told us the entire story. If we lose freedom here, there's no place to escape to. This is the last stand on earth.

And this idea that government is beholden to the people, that it has no other source of power except the sovereign people, is still the newest and the most unique idea in all the long history of man's relation to man.

This is the issue of this election: whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capitol can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.

You and I are told increasingly we have to choose between a left or right. Well I'd like to suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There's only an up or down: [up] man's old -- old-aged dream, the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order, or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. And regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would trade our freedom for security have embarked on this downward course.

In this vote-harvesting time, they use terms like the "Great Society," or as we were told a few days ago by the President, we must accept a greater government activity in the affairs of the people. But they've been a little more explicit in the past and among themselves; and all of the things I now will quote have appeared in print. These are not Republican accusations. For example, they have voices that say, "The cold war will end through our acceptance of a not undemocratic socialism." Another voice says, "The profit motive has become outmoded. It must be replaced by the incentives of the welfare state." Or
I am a little skeptical on Mitt, he did open the door to socialist health care in Massachussetts, then Duval Patrick didn't bother opening the door, he c-4'ed it off the wall.

The problem with McClintock is that he is only a congressman as is the same story with Paul.

It is very rare if never that someone jumps from the House of Representatives to the White House.
The problem with Perry is he is pseudo socially liberal (see Giuliani) (Executive order ordering HPV vaccine) and he is against sealing the borders if I remember right.

The British coin is dated 1894 Victoria. The mohurs have Arabic or Urdu writing and each weigh about 11 grams and have different diameters and are not perfect circles.

Question by Slate: Are mexican 2 pesos gold coin a decent investment value?
I've never bought gold or silver before and I'm thinking starting to buy a few coins here and there to start a very small reserve. The cheapest common gold coins I've found online are Mexican 2 pesos for about per coin with shipping. I've read that foreign currency coins such as British Sovereigns, French 20 Francs, South African Krugerrands, Austrian 100 Coronas, Mexican 50 Pesos are good values because they cost less per ounce then traditional American Ealges, so you get more gold for your money.

Does the same principle apply for Mexican 2 pesos? Any of the others I mentioned cost 0 or more per coin, and while I may eventually start buying that much, for now all I'm really looking to do is spend an occasional -0, and gather a few coins over time.

I've got some other ideas for silver, but as far as gold goes would Mexican 2 pesos be a good way to go?

Seems fine to me, it's good to buy in regular increments so you are automatically dollar-cost averaging your way into the market, which lowers your risk of trying to time the market for a large purchase.

Mexican 2 pesos gold coins are 90% gold, AGW .0482 oz and don't carry a stiff premium so I say go for it.

It is worth about 10% more than the gold content, which is about .12 troy ounces. That makes it about 0 - 0.
